An Autumn Wanderer by Maryam Qureshi

Am I an Autumn wanderer?

A nutty air hangs,

A sniff of leaves,

Pulse softens,

Fists freed.

Air, like sea,

gushing all the evocative memories,

Sweet whispers of old loves

And sad poems.

A brooding heart

Longing to bleed

In the love letters

Of a lonesome lover

Perhaps there is longing in loneliness,

For the heart raves like a guiltless prisoner

Pulling its hair.

Oh! my dark anguish,

       My favourite spell,

       My kindest desire,

       My dearest torment.

A freezing night creeps at the close of the day.

Dear Wanderer!

A search for your soul is a long terrifying night

Soon, you will feel its blaze,

Already beginning to relish the flames.

A redemptive silence prevails,

Suppressing the mundane,

A sinner prays in secret,

For society’s gain.

Oh autumn!

You bear semblance to

Eagle brown eyes of a lover,

A threat to my sanity,

Disruption of my peace,

With devotion of a beast.

Let’s float in the moonstruck air

Before, once again, we sunder into white abyss.
